Croeso i Ddosbarth Coala
A new academic year is upon us again so I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and inform you of the organisation within Dosbarth Coala. I am the class teacher, Mrs Howells and we are very lucky to have Mrs Stevens working with us full time this year also.
Your child will receive homework once a fortnight, given on a Monday to be returned by the following Monday. This will usually be an extension to work completed in class. In addition to this, the children will be required to read at home two or three times a week with an adult and will receive weekly ‘Talk Homework’.
A leaflet sheet will be sent home soon so you can see the exciting activities we will be doing this term through out topic ‘One Giant Step…..’.
PE Day—PE will be on a Wednesday. No jewellery is to be worn during PE lessons and long hair must be tied back. If for some reason your child is unable to participate in PE a letter with a valid reason must be provided. P.E. kit - dark shorts , white t–shirt, plimsolls or trainers, in a small bag, if possible.
Regular information/messages and examples of the children’s work will be able to be found on our Blog page on our school blog: http://www.ffynnontafpri.blogspot.com
or our website: http://ffynnontafprimaryschool.createprimary.co.uk/.
You will also receive regular text messages or letters throughout the term.
We want to make the change of class as easy as possible for your child. You can help them by:
Ensuring that ALL their possessions, especially fleeces, sweatshirts and other belongings are easily identifiable. Sew in name tapes are best for clothing as `written on’ names do not last.
Encouraging your child’s growing independence – letting them sort out their own lunchbox, snack, coat, shoes etc. We understand that this takes them time at first and allow for it.
Listening to them read, or ask them about their books and encourage them to read every day.
Practising numeracy skills in a friendly and informal way – number games ,mental arithmetic and table facts 2, 3, 4, 5, 10.
Encouraging and supporting them to do their homework by themselves.
Coming and asking if you or your child have any worries – however small.
Other Important Information
The children will need to bring their own snack in for break or can obtain a piece of fruit from our tuck shop. (Most items 30 pence - you can send £1.50 in on a Monday, in an envelope with your child's name clearly marked, if you wish).
The children will line up before school at the entrance to the junior building closest to the car park.
Our new class will be in Mr Brown’s old class.
The children will exit at the end of the day by the same entrance - one by one when their parent or guardian arrives (you may wait in the yard outside this exit).
There will be a Parent Notice Board just outside the classroom displaying any important information or letters that have been given.
Please can your child bring a bottle or beaker of water with them to school each day.
A SCHOOL book bag - please do NOT bring rucksacks or large bags to school - we haven’t room.
Wellingtons—Please could your child bring in a pair of wellies (with their name clearly marked) to be left in school. Thank you.
Please can your child bring their reading book and record booklet into school every day.
Mrs Stevens and I are looking forward to teaching your child this year; working with them and watching them progress. If you have any worries or queries or if you can offer your support or time in any way don’t hesitate to contact us.
Diolch yn fawr,
Mrs Howells and Mrs Stevens
