Reading maps and orienteering

The lovely weather continues to shine on us and class 4 took advantage of this by practising their orienteering skills on the school field. Mums and Dads were invited to help out but the children quickly picked up what they had to do and led the way! We we joined by the friendly Ian and Lorna from the Forestry Commission who guided us through the session. Firstly we had to follow a course on the field adding up numbers underneath the cones. Next the children quickly learnt some map symbols which included a relay race to help memorise what the symbols meant. Lastly, all the new skills were put together when the children were challenged to read a map of the school grounds and find eight different marker points. Needless to say, class 4 were brilliant! Well done boys and girls - you were a credit to your parents and to the school.
