Talk Homework 26th September 2011
I was so pleased with the children’s writing from last week. They were all able to write a set of instructions for a rocket launch! This week we will be looking how we can improve this (up levelling our work) even further by adding adverbs e.g. slowly, carefully, gently and more time connectives e.g. first, next, finally to our instructions. Some may even wish to add a WOW word or two! I have included an instructional text with examples of these highlighted for you to discuss with your child.
This week your Talk Homework is to discuss instructions on how to use a moon buggy to retrieve lunar samples from the moon’s surface. Please discuss:
1. the equipment needed e.g.
Equipment
*moon buggy
*camera
*radio
*satellite
*tools
2. the bossy words that could be used e.g. collect, retrieve, place, find, drive, press, turn, reverse, pull etc
4 .discuss with them the sequence of events that would lead to finding lunar samples e.g.
1. Getting on board the buggy
2. Driving the buggy
3. Gathering the necessary equipment
4. Walking to the destination
5. Using the tools
6. Collecting the samples
7. Returning to the buggy
Remember the more talk the better and the better prepared the children will be to their writing session on Friday.
