Talk Homework
4th February 2013
This week we are continuing
with the genre of explanation texts but this week we are looking at the
traditional tale of 'The Princess and the Pea'. We will be explaining the process of finding a true princess. The children did extremely well last week but are still tending to give
instructions rather than explain the process. The children enjoyed listening to
the story ‘The Pea and the Princess’ which was the same story but from the pea’s
point of view. Ask them to retell the
story to you because it is amusing!
This week please
could you discuss the questions below (keep thinking of the story The Princess
and the Pea) as these will form the subheadings within our writing.
*What is a princess?
*How can you tell if
a princess is real?
*How do you search
for a princess? – Relate to the story e.g. send the prince out looking.
*Where do you place
the pea?
*How will you know if
they are a true princess?
*What happens to the
pea afterwards?
Once you have discussed
these encourage your child to explain how to find a princess in their own
words, using the questions above as a guide.
Praise them for using time connectives e.g. next, following this, then and
encourage them to extend their sentences with because, and, so therefore,
consequently.
