Talk Homework – Monday 16 th June

The Leaf Man

This week we are reading the story ‘The Leaf Man’ by Lois Ehlert.  The story is quite simple.  Leaf Man is the brief account of the travels of a leaf man as the wind blows him over the countryside. Here is a blurb from the book:

Fall has come, the wind is gusting, and Leaf Man is on the move. Is he drifting east, over the marsh and ducks and geese? Or is he heading west, above the orchards, prairie meadows, and spotted cows? No one's quite sure, but this much is certain: A Leaf Man's got to go where the wind blows.

This week the children will be creating their own Leaf Man and then on Friday they will be writing a detailed description of their creation using similes, adjectives and some even attempting to add clauses to their sentences!!!

Why not have a go at making your own leaf man with your child and talk about:
*What colour is he? Can you think of a simile to describe his colour? His body was as green as grass.
* How does he feel? What adjectives can you think of to describe how the leaves feel?
*What sounds does he make when he moves? Simile???
*What does he say? Do? What is his personality like?

Have fun and remember the more talk the better!!!
