Talk Homework Monday 28th January

Explanation Texts - Jack and the Beanstalk

This week we are looking at the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk.  We will be focusing on the part where Jack purchases the beans, throws them out of the window and the growth of the beanstalk.
Please can you use the images attached to talk about and explain the:
*stages involved in the growth of a beanstalk
*what is needed to grow a beanstalk e.g. plant pot, seeds, soil, water, light, airy space.
Encourage your child to use time connectives: then, next, after and use cause and effect time connectives e.g. because, so, this causes. Please ensure they are explaining the process rather than writing a set of instructions.  I have included some examples below to illustrate the difference between the two styles of writing.

Instructional Writing - First gather all the equipment you need to plant the beans.

Explanation Writing - The equipment needed to grow a beanstalk is: seeds, soil, water, watering can etc.
Instructional - First screw the bulb into the holder.
Explanation - First the bulb must be screwed into the holder properly.
Thank you so much for your continued support with your child's talk homework.
